Former Seahawks tight end Rod Jones died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Saturday, December 8. He was 54. Jones had a short career with the Seahawks, playing in four games in the 1989 season after spending the previous two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. "The Seahawks brought me in at a time when I thought my career was over," Jones recalled. "I was with Kansas City at the time and came back to Seattle. My thought was retirement, and I called the Seahawks just out of the blue. I said 'Hey, this is Rod Jones, I'm in town, if you guys need my services give me a call.' A Visit with Rod Jones
Jones had a short stay on the Seahawks' 1989 roster as a tight end, all of 4 games to be exact, when another tight end was sidelined with an injury. He previously played the 1987-1988 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. Jones was also a member of the 1984 Washington Huskies football team that finished #2 in the nation with their Orange Bowl win over Oklahoma. He currently works as the Academic Coordinator for men's football and basketball at the University of Washington.
