Marcus Trufant Bowling Classic
The 15th Annual edition of the Trufant Family Foundation's fundraiser saw another large turnout by Seahawks Legends and Seahawks fans. Acme Bowl in Tukwila, WA, was the site, and the event featured alumni appearances by Walter Jones, Kam Chancellor, Lofa Tatupu, Mike Morgan, and, of course, Marcus Trufant.
Polynesian Honors for Dan & Lofa
Dan Saleaumua and Lofa Tatupu are among the 4 inductees selected from a list of 12 finalists for the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Saleaumua was a defensive tackle for the Seahawks for 2 seasons (1997-1998), and also played for the Detroit Lions (1987-1988) and Kansas City Chiefs (1989-1996). He started 9 of the 16 games he played in the 1997 season, and 6 of the 11 games played in 1998, his final NFL season. He still holds the Kansas City Chiefs record for most fumble recoveries with 18. Seahawks Legends Run for Sickle Cell
Seward Park along Lake Washington was the site for the 13th Annual Sickle Cell Run, held on Saturday, September 15. Several Seahawks Legends turned out for the event, and all had one thing in common: they were teammates of fellow Legend Bobby Engram, who lost his daughter Bobbi from complications of sickle cell on August 25. Sean Locklear, Lofa Tatupu and Marcus Trufant were all teammates with Bobby, and all were members of the Super Bowl XL team as well. A Visit with Lofa Tatupu
As a 2nd-round pick by the Seahawks in the 2005 NFL Draft, Tatupu's impact on the defense at linebacker was rewarded with 3 Pro Bowl appearances in his first 3 seasons with the team. He would go on to play through the 2010 season with the Seahawks, and would later join head coach Pete Carroll's coaching staff.
Honors for Polynesian Legends
Three Seahawks Legends are among the finalists for the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Class of 2018. Dan Saleaumua (defensive tackle, 1997-1998), Mosiula Mea'alofa "Lofa" Tatupu (linebacker, 2005-2010), and Manu'ula “Manu” Asovalu Tuiasosopo (defensive end, 1979-1983) are the Legends in the running. Five inductees (four players and one coach/contributor) will be announced on October 10, 2017. They will be honored during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend and during the Polynesian Bowl on January 19 & 20, 2018.
