Aka "Benchwarmer Bob," Lurtsema was one of the original Seahawks as a defensive end & defensive tackle in the 1976-1977 seasons. He entered the NFL with the N.Y. Giants in 1967, where he played through the 1971 season before joining the Minnesota Vikings (1972-1976), where future Seahawks head coach Jack Patera was the defensive line coach. He played one game with the Vikings in 1976 before moving on to Seattle. Lurtsema played in two Super Bowls while with the Vikings (Super Bowl VIII and IX).
