Rick Mirer – Wine Maker
October 1, 2009
By Bill Boehlke
Taken as the second pick in the 1993 NFL Draft by the Seahawks, Rick Mirer in his rookie year set NFL rookie records for attempts, completions & yards, and became only the third rookie quarterback since 1970 to start all of his team’s games. He finished his rookie season fifth in the AFC with 274 completions and 2,833 yards.
Today, Rick is the proud co-owner of the Mirror Wine Company in St. Helena, California. Launched in January, 2009, the winery’s initial offering, a 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, received accolades from a number of wine aficionados, including Wine Enthusiast.
The fact that “Mirror” and “Mirer” share a similar spelling is only a plus, says Rick. “Because my last name shares the same spelling as the phonetic spelling for mirror (mirer), I have often been referred to as Rick “Mirror.” The parallel was too good to pass up and the name stuck. The Mirror Wine Company was born.”
