The Seahawks head into this offseason having made a significant change, hiring Mike Macdonald as the team's new head coach to replace Pete Carroll, who held that job for the previous 14 seasons. With that important decision behind him, general manager John Schneider and the player personnel department now turn their attention to free agency, which begins with the start of the new league year this week.

As always, the Seahawks will look to bolster their roster by adding new free agents to the roster, but there are also plenty of players from the 2023 team who are headed to free agency that Seattle would like to keep around.

With that in mind, we're taking a look at which players are set to become free agents when the new league year begins on Wednesday.

In all, the Seahawks have 14 unrestricted free agents, including seven starters—linebackers Jordyn Brooks and Bobby Wagner, guards Damien Lewis and Phil Haynes, defensive end Leonard Williams, tight end Noah Fant and center Evan Brown, as well as four restricted free agents and five exclusive rights free agents. Additionally, they've released five players to free up salary cap space, making Quandre Diggs, Jamal Adams, Will Dissly, Bryan Mone and Nick Bellore unrestricted free agents.

An unrestricted free agent is a player who has four or more accrued seasons whose contract is expired, and is free to sign with any team once the new league year begins.

Restricted free agents are players who have three or fewer accrued seasons and an expired contract. If teams extend qualifying offers to restricted free agents before the start of the new league year, they can receive draft-pick compensation if a player signs an offer sheet with another team that their current team chooses not to match. The level of compensation depends on the level of RFA tender the team uses.

Exclusive rights free agents are players with two or fewer accrued seasons and an expired contract, and if extended a qualifying offer, they can only sign back with the team. Restricted and exclusive rights free agents become restricted free agents at the start of the new league year if no qualifying offer is made.
