Mike Holmgren to Coach in Annual NFLPA Game
Former Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren will serve as a head coach for the fourth annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Joining Holmgren on the sideline as assistants are former Seahawks lineman Steve Hutchinson, former quarterback Jon Kitna, and Gil Haskell, who was Holmgren’s offensive coordinator while with the Seahawks.
The game, sponsored by the NFL Players Association, will be played on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., and will air live on ESPN2 beginning at 1:00 pm PT. Only draft-eligible players are invited to the all-star game.
Holmgren, one of the masters of the West Coast offense who led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl appearance in 2005 – and Green Bay to the 1996 NFL championship – will coach the American team. Mike Martz, the offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams’ “Greatest Show on Turf” in the late 1990s and early 2000s, will coach the National team.
Former Seahawks coach Tom Flores coached the American team in the 2012 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl game.
