Keith Butler Named New Steelers Defensive Coordinator
Former Seahawks linebacker Keith Butler has been named the new defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Butler, 58, had been the team’s linebackers coach since 2003 and had long been considered the heir apparent to Dick LeBeau, who resigned from the position.
“It’s the thrill of a lifetime for me,” said Butler on his promotion. “This is a dream come true for me, and it would be for a lot of people. I’m just grateful for the opportunity.”
Butler was selected 36th overall by the Seahawks in the 1978 NFL Draft. He started 132 of 146 games in his 10 year career (1978-1987), and finished with 813 tackles, ranking second on the Seahawks’ all-time tackles list. He was also with the Steelers when they defeated the Seahawks in Super Bowl XL in 2005.
